A family tradition of caring for children
Butterfly Babysitting Agency provides trusted, friendly babysitters in Hobart and Launceston, Tasmania. We care for children of all ages in private homes, hotel rooms and holiday accommodation, and provide childcare for conferences, weddings and special events.
The agency is owned and run by Heidi, who understands the great trust parents place in us when they leave their children in our care. Heidi and our team of carefully selected babysitters make every booking safe, fun and engaging: for the children, and for their parents' peace of mind.
Meet Heidi
Heidi grew up in Hobart, and children have been part of her life for as long as she can remember. She learned a great deal from watching her mum, Lois, care for children as a family day carer, and was babysitting for family friends by the age of 12. As she grew older, she taught Sunday School and became a regular leader at a local Christian camp.
Heidi studied a Bachelor of Education in Launceston and began her teaching career in regional Victoria, before returning to Hobart in 2004 to work as a relief teacher and private tutor. Not long after, she answered a newspaper ad for babysitters and joined Alladin Baby Sitting Service. She also led activities at her church's playgroup.
Later, Heidi and her husband spent about eight years as foster carers, welcoming children from newborns to teenagers into their home. The experience deepened her understanding of how trauma and neurodiversity can affect children.
All of this means Heidi can quickly understand what a child needs and create a safe environment to meet those needs. She takes pride in excellent customer service and a very high standard of care.

Our story
When Heidi joined Alladin Baby Sitting Service, it was already a well-established business serving Hobart and Launceston. A month later her mum, Lois, joined too, and they both babysat for the business for many years.
In 2017, when the owner retired, Lois bought the business, changed the spelling of its name, and renamed it Aladdin Babysitting Agency. Heidi worked alongside her as she continued the service in both cities. Sadly, Lois passed away suddenly at the end of 2022.
Heidi didn't want the families and babysitters who relied on the agency to be left without support. With her family's blessing, she took over Lois's business phone number and existing bookings, and made sure every family already booked in was looked after. In January 2023 she established Butterfly Babysitting Agency as her own new business, continuing the same service, in the same areas, with many of the same babysitters.
Heidi chose the butterfly because it's a symbol of new beginnings, and because butterflies are bright, fun and loved by almost everyone. That's exactly how we want families to feel about us.
The name has changed, but the care and the family values behind it haven't.
Our babysitters
Our team is a mix of babysitters who have been with us for many years, some since the Aladdin days, and others who have joined more recently. Every babysitter completes a one-on-one interview and two reference checks, and holds a current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People. Most also have experience in other childcare roles, and they all genuinely love spending time with children.

First Aid-trained babysitters available. Butterfly Babysitting Agency holds Public Liability Insurance.
